USA 1982 - Madonna und Jesus Ikone
           gemalt im Jahr 1982 für die Griechisch Orthodoxe Kirche St. Nicholas in Newark New Jersey USA

Madonna  1982 reiste Heinz Stoeffler mit seiner Familie nach Amerika. Er malte dort eine 4m grosse Madonna in der griech.orthodoxen Kirche St.Nicholas in NEWARK N.J. und eine zweite Ikone "Segnender Christus".  Der damalige Priester James A, Aloupis erhielt zu einem Jubilaeum ein von H.Stöffler gemaltes Oelportrait. Aloupis, der der Kirche einen neuen Namen gab: "Agapi" zu deutsch "Liebe". Es war ihm sehr ernst damit. Das Nummernschild seines  Wagens war "Love 1", und das des Presidenten Nicos "Love 2". Heinz Stoeffler traveled to America with family in 1982 and painted there a 4 m tall Madonna in the Greek orthodox church St.Nicholas in NEWARK NJ and one second icon "blessing Christ". For the priest of the church then I painted for an anniversary an oil portrait Priest James A. Aloupis gave by the way this church a new name: "Agapi" this is called "Love". He was very serious with that. His car license plate had the name "Love 1" and the Päsident of the church, Mr Nikos, had the license plate with the name "Love 2". Jesus Ikone am Eingang d.Kirche. Im Buch steht:  "Egv eimi h odoV; h alhqeia, kai h Zvh" "Ich bin der Weg, die Wahrheit und das Leben" Jesus Icone on the entrance of the Church. In the book is writen:  "I am the way, the truth and the life.	President der Kirche und Heinz Stoeffler- Zum Anbringen der 4m grossen Madonna mussten 4 Mann gemeinsam das Gerüst hochsteigen. Beim ersten Ankleben hing die Ikone schief. Beim zweitenmal klappte es. The President of the church and me - It was difficult to attach the 4 meters large Madonna at the wall behind the altar. 4 man were needed therefore.

Waehrend auf Wunsch der Kirche noch Wolken um die Madonna gemalt werden sollten, saß die ganze Zeit über der Geschaeftsführer der Kirche, Nikos Paras in einer Bank. Auf die Frage des Künstlers, ob alles in Ordnung sei, antwortete er nach langer Pause: "Weisst du, so wie jetzt die Madonna zu sehen ist, sah ich sie in einem Traum". Alle waren sehr glücklich, und meinten, dass die Madonna ein Meisterwerk sei.
The Madonna was painted on canvas, then cut out and glued on the wall behind the altar. After the work was done Nicos the president of the church told the Artist: "you know, as the Madonna looks like now, the same way I saw here in a dream". Everyone was very happy and said to the Artist: Heinz, the madonna is a masterpiece.

The St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newark N.J. USA is one of the first Greek orthodox Churches in USA and therefore known in all states. Thats why Archbishop Jakovos him self came from New York and dedicated the Madonna. At that time, after almost a year stay, however, we were again on our Journey home to Crete.

Die Kirche ist eine der ersten griechisch-orthodoxen Kirchen in Amerika und deshalb in allen Staaten bekannt, weshalb auch der Erzbischof Jakovos aus New York kam und die Madonna einweihte. Zu dieser Zeit, nach fast einem Jahr Aufenthalt,  befanden wir uns aber schon wieder auf der Heimreise nach Kreta.
